The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana (PM-Kisan Yojana) project of the Indian government seeks to provide a minimum income aid of up to Rs. 6,000 annually for all marginal and small-scale farmers. A financial benefit of Rs. 6000 is given to every landowner farmer families,  annually through the PM KISAN Yojana scheme. Every four months, this amount is due in three equal installments of Rs. 2000 each.

Purpose of the PM Kisan Yojana

 Farmers make up one of the largest populations, and agriculture is crucial to India’s economy. However, because of the social gap between the rural and urban sections of the country, farming communities have long struggled with financial prosperity.

This issue has plagued a sizable section of India’s population ever since the country gained its freedom. The federal and state governments have invested countless hours into upgrading these areas through a range of programs designed to solve this social and economic burden. The Indian government started the Pradhan mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana in 2018 to aid these villages.  The sixth installment of this initiative was made available by the Indian government on August 9, 2020, and it received by about 8.5 crore farmers.. According to its goals, this project attempts to assist about 125 million farmers in India, especially those who are marginal or small-scale.

How Did the Plan Take Effect?

2018 saw the launch of the Ryuthu Bandhu scheme by the Telangana government. A set amount distributed by the state government twice a year as part of this project to support a farmer’s investment in agriculture. This initiative’s direct advantages for farmers widely acknowledged and praised.

 The Indian government followed suit and introduced a comparable Farmer’s Investment Support Scheme to provide money to farmers all around the country. On December 1st, 2018, the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana commenced.  The government initially announced that this scheme will receive Rs. 75000 crore annually.

 How to apply for the PM-Kisan scheme?

Farmers can register them using the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana’s official website, pmkisan.gov.in, to apply. Farmers can also submit an online application for the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojna or visit the nearest Common Services Centre (CSC) or PM-Kisan Nodal Officer (designated by the state government).

 Criteria for PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana Eligibility

Under this program, farmers from any Indian state are eligible. (In the past, only farmer households with cultivable land up to 2 hectares were eligible for income support. However, the BJP pledged in its 2019 election platform to make the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana available to all 14.5 Crore farmers, regardless of the size of their lands.  To receive the benefit, farmers must have a savings account or Jan-Dhan account. Direct bank account transfers will made for the installments.
